This definitely falls under the heading of "Boys and their toys"!

Here's a short, but spectacular collection of car stunts and crashes from the movies.  Some of them were new to me.  Fasten your seatbelts!

I wonder how much all those destroyed cars cost?  It's no wonder making modern movies is so expensive!

Cars are a commodity, but a lot of cameras got crunched there too.

Wow, obviously NOT much plot behind those... sigh

Actually most budgets in movies go towards salaries.

It's not uncommon for many productions to pick up cards from a junkyard, fix them up a little (if needed) and then crash those. Total cost? A few hundred per car at most. It's actually a game of b-movie aficionados to play "spot the crash" where we guess which car on screen is going to crash or blow up. (and you usually guess the one that looks like it came from a junkyard)

But then I just find the creation of movies interesting.

I remember hearing that they don't necessarily crash the actual cars that are portrayed as crashing. Instead, especially for expensive cars, it's a fake body-kit on a cheap chassis.

You can see crashes nearly as exciting on Russian dashcam videos. That might be influencing the over-the-top movie stunts to some extent. Russian drivers seem to be crazy, untrained, inexperienced, and/or drunk. Maybe all of the above!
