As you know, yesterday was the anniversary of the D-Day landings in 1944. On MeWe, user Dave Annis posted this cartoon from the invasion period. Clickit to biggit.
My father would have laughed out loud at that one (having been an engineer officer in the Royal Air Force at the time).

My husband's father would have gotten a chuckle or 2 out of that one! I am told that he piloted B17s over the channel to "visit" Germany. Several of the planes he brought back never ever flew again.
He later later joined this group of folks. http://55wa.org/heritage/
It was said that the CROWS liked George because he did not get upset when the Russians were shooting at his RB47.

I am reminded of the hilarious books by cartoonist Bob Stevens. Can't find an image of this particular cartoon--
View is just outside a B-24 cockpit window, co-pilot's side. Pilot appears to be a good 'ol country boy, waving at folks out his window. In the near distance can be seen a railroad crossing sign. Behind the pilot stands a crew member, with complete aplomb holding a corn stalk on which clings a wide-eyed and completely shell-shocked crow.
Caption (from the crew member) "Compliments from the ball gunner, sir. Can we please gain a little altitude?"
