I'd love to know the story behind that . . .

Courtesy of Wirecutter, here's the mission record of a US strike aircraft:

I can figure out the Maverick missile silhouettes, the cannon shells, and the bombs . . . but I'd dearly love to know the story behind the cow!

Apparently, after a ground attack to relieve our troops, the after action found, besides dead jihadis, a dead cow.

Legitimate target.

At least they're not using elephants like the VC did.

I remember the older versions which featured water buf and their successor which featured camels.

There has to be a 'cow-fell-outta'-the-plane' story somewhere...

IIRC Some South East Asia Wargames, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, DPRV edition planes had water buffalo, and elephant target hits painted on the fuselage.
