According to Cowboy State Daily, this piece of home-made ironmongery was found earlier this year on a Native American reservation in Iowa. Click either image for a larger view.
“It looks like it’s probably a hand grenade waiting to happen,” Brian Dimoff, owner of Gold Spur Outfitters LLC in Laramie, told Cowboy State Daily.
He was referencing photos of a sketchy homemade firearm seized by police and dubbed a “Smith & Methson” model, which has become somewhat of an Internet laughingstock and social media meme among firearms enthusiasts ... It was seized earlier this year from a suspected meth dealer in Iowa, according to reports from the Meskwaki Nation Police Department. The suspect had a prior felony conviction and was therefore prohibited from owning firearms.
. . .
But firing the “Smith & Methson” probably wouldn’t have made its shooter’s day, Dimoff said.
“What he created would have been a gas jet pointing back toward himself,” he said ... The cops did him a favor when they took that from him,” he said. “He would have ended up seriously injuring or even killing himself with it.”

Looking at the engineering (???) involved, a tetanus shot before handling it and a pair of nitrile gloves might not be bad ideas, either!

Sometimes our law enforcement people fail to recognize their leg is being pulled. I would bet someone, somewhere, is getting a big laugh over this.
It might be hard to find a holster for that model, with the flashlight attached.
More like welder's gloves... And a string to a Ransom Rest behind a steel shield!
The t6actical flashlight is a nice touch. Was this assembled by an imaginative nine-year-old?
(Oops. Feel free to edit the typo out of the previous post.)
Funny to speculate about, but most likely a 'flash piece' intended to scare people, not for actual use. But...with meth heads, you never really know.
About 40yrs ago I was shot by a guy using a piece of 1/4in. copper tubing,a spring, a nail, some black electric tape & a 22 short. Knocked me down long enough for him to take a 6 pack of beer & change from a $20. I laughed at him when I saw it, he pushed it to my shoulder & pulled the nail back & pow. It won't happen again, I've carried everyday since.
Looks like something from a Mad Max movie.
If I could be a fly on the wall in that guy's house... He must have been playing Call of Duty all day when he realized he needed to add a tac light! I would love to know if it actually works.
Bet you could get a hundred bucks for that bit of Rube Goldberg ironmongery from one of those gun buyback programs so popular in blue cities.
Steampunk LARPers, OTOH, want to patent the design.
It is a cunning weapon.
When accosted by some mugger, pull that out and about "Yeah." .
Your opponent will freeze, and then double up laughing.
You make your leisurely exit. A kick to the goulies and knee up to the nose are options.
