It's des-pickle-ble!

I note, with a fascination bordering on horror, that a candy company has decided to make pickle flavored jelly beans.

I've been known to nibble on a jelly bean or two, and I enjoyed J. K. Rowling's description, in her Harry Potter novels, of "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans", although some of the flavors she described made me gag a little . . . but even Ms. Rowling didn't foresee a pickle flavored jenny bean.

One can only ask why such monstrosities exist.  Are they a sign that Divine favor has finally turned away from humanity?  Is the apocalypse nigh?

I'm not a great fan of pickles, although I enjoy one now and again.  However, it seems these things actually do taste like the real deal.

Okay, this is insane and I can’t believe I am saying this, but these jelly beans taste like Claussen Dill Pickles. They just do. The first thing that hits is sweetness, followed by a startlingly accurate dill pickle flavor and a slight hint of salt. I am shocked. These are actually kind of, dare I say it, good? Not that I would eat handfuls of them—one bean was enough for me. But these are, unequivocally, about as good as a pickle jelly bean could possibly get. They set out to make dill pickle jelly beans and, by golly, they’ve done it.

There's more at the link.

Notwithstanding that, I think I won't be a customer.  Regular jelly beans, yes.  Pickle flavored . . . not so much.  However, if they could make one that tasted like coarse brown bread, sharp, aged cheddar cheese and pickled onions, as in an English ploughman's lunch, that might tempt me!

What flavor of jelly bean would you like to see, dear readers?  Let us know in Comments.

Peter

A pickled jellybean sounds like an interesting culinary excursion. Given the opportunity I'll try it. As my dad said, "You'll never know if you like something, until you try it"

Frankford's shipping put me off but Amazon had a four-pack for about $25 so I went there.

Going to be puzzled grandkids this Easter.

The guy's review isn't quite what I consider a ringing endorsement: "Not that I would eat handfuls of them—one bean was enough for me. But these are, unequivocally, about as good as a pickle jelly bean could possibly get."

I'm not quite sure if that's a better review than, "it didn't make me barf."

On a ploughman's lunch, I thought it was Branston Pickle that one had with their bread, cheese and pint. That nice sweet, acid and vegetable flavor is wonderful.

For decades, I've been waiting for a MetaMucil jelly bean to hit the shelves.

One of our little, old, church lady friends gave me a couple jars of Jalapeno-peach jam. It sounded really sketchy and suspect, until I tried it. Dyn-O-Mite!!! She also mentioned Jalapeno-Raspberry, and Jalapeno-Cherry combos.
So as for jelly beans, I'd like to see some with a bit of zing to them from Jalapeno.

When I had to go to Chicago to visit a client I would pass the Jelly Belly factory. When I would be coming home I would stop by their factory store and get a bag of their Belly Flops. Those were the jelly beans that were off color or the flavor didn't match the color of the bean. There could be 4 green beans that had a different flavor from each other.
