"Is A Race War Being Censored To Avoid White Backlash?"

That's the headline of a very disquieting article by Thomas Sowell, published today.  Here are a few excerpts.

When two white newspaper reporters for the Virginian-Pilot were driving through Norfolk, and were set upon and beaten by a mob of young blacks — beaten so badly that they had to take a week off from work — that might seem to have been news that should have been reported, at least by their own newspaper. But it wasn't.

. . .

Similar episodes of unprovoked violence by young black gangs against white people chosen at random on beaches, in shopping malls or in other public places have occurred in Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Los Angeles and other places across the country. Both the authorities and the media tend to try to sweep these episodes under the rug as well.

. . .

Media outlets that do not report the race of people committing crimes nevertheless report racial disparities in imprisonment and write heated editorials blaming the criminal justice system.

What the authorities and the media seem determined to suppress is that the hoodlum elements in many ghettos launch coordinated attacks on whites in public places.

. . .

Asian American school children in New York and Philadelphia have for years been beaten up by their black classmates. But people in the mainstream media who go ballistic if some kid says something unkind on the Internet about a homosexual classmate nevertheless hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil when Asian American youngsters are beaten up by their black classmates.

There's more at the link.  Essential reading, IMHO.

I wrote about this phenomenon last year when considering 'The Changing Urban Self-Defense Environment'.  I believe it's gotten worse this year, particularly with the pre-judicial demonizing of George Zimmerman by many media outlets over the Trayvon Martin shooting.  It seems that for at least some sectors of the media, anything black is automatically and uncritically to be supported and portrayed in positive terms, while anything else may be dissected, analyzed, criticized and vilified as desired.

I might add that there is immense pressure on law enforcement to conform to this stereotype.  I worked as a prison chaplain for several years, both part-time and full-time, and in that capacity had a fair amount of contact with law enforcement personnel.  I was also involved in relief efforts during and after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and neighborhood security after Hurricane Gustav.  The same media approach was reported by law enforcement officers of my acquaintance during all those periods and incidents, including efforts by police chiefs to perpetuate such stereotypes (including the deliberate falsification of crime reports and statistics where necessary).  I can only presume that such efforts were made in an attempt to satisfy the politicians who appointed those police chiefs.

Mr. Sowell points out:

Trying to keep the lid on is understandable. But a lot of pressure can build up under that lid. If and when that pressure leads to an explosion of white backlash, things could be a lot worse than if the truth had come out earlier, and steps taken by both black and white leaders to deal with the hoodlums and with those who inflame the hoodlums.

I fear he may be proved all too correct.

Peter

Thank you for saying it out loud. I thought I was being paranoid.

It's looking like John Derbyshire got fired for simply pointing out that the emperor isn't clothed, isn't it?

The MSM has done the same thing with video of 9/11, hiding it and refusing to play it so as to prevent the American people from being righteously outraged that it occurred.

We're truly living in Orwellian times.

I work in law enforcement and I can state with absolute certainty based on personal experience that there is not one single media source anywhere in this country that can be depended upon for the truth. This extends from the local media to the national media. I have been at scenes that have made the national news and I can tell you that every single time the incidents are reported inaccurately. Often times to the extent the story barely resembles the actual occurrence. The same applies to the local media and it doesn't matter if it's a homicide or a traffic accident. Most often it's due to laziness on the smaller issues but on the larger stories it is usually based on sensationalism to sell their papers or boost their ratings. If it isn't based on either of those it is to based on slanting or just outright lying to advance the political agenda of the particular outlet.

Just recently 3 NBC staffers were fired for editing the 911 tape in the Trayvon Martin case to make it sound like Zimmerman was racist. They do that shit all the time. They edit videos of police encounters with regularity to make the police look dirty. I've seen it and I've experienced it..They are not even remotely interested in the truth.

The media has a vital role to play in a democracy and they no longer fulfill that role. Where are the investigative journalist holding the dirty politicians feet to the fire? Uncovering the scandal and exposing it? The taxpayers just funded an 800 billion dollar bail out. Who did the media expose or throw to the masses that was responsible for stealing and cheating us out of our 800 billion? Nobody. Not one.

My friends tell me I'm overly dramatic but I see no hope for this nation as it is. There is not one part of our society that is not completely corrupted from the government on all levels to the media.

One of the local TV stations went through a phase of not giving the race (when known) of wanted criminals. However, common sense prevailed after people called in and wanted to know if every 5' 5" 20-something male wearing a hoodie should be reported to the police, or could they be more specific. After the fifth or sixth barrage of calls, the station went back to giving the full description.

The role of the press in our society is to tell us the truth so that we can make informed decisions. If they fail that, they abdicate their role and should be discarded in favor of those who can and will do the job.

As for the government suppressing reports of racial violence, no matter the circumstances, it does nothing but embolden those who will use race as an excuse and make the shock even worse for when it all comes into the light.

As for me and mine, we're putting swivels on our necks and being smart. Other than that, what can you do?

For years we lived in an area rife with gang activity and were bluntly informed by law enforcement on both the state and federal level (with whom we worked, briefly) that "Crime stats aren't recorded in the database for this area - the file copy is just that, a file copy. Our orders are to keep the official crime rate down. It's just politics."
Now, living far from there, the crud swept under the proverbial carpet is far from trivial and civilians are powerless to change the system when it's a matter of jobs and pensions.
Options?
Never be caught alone in condition White.
Accept that MSM is a propaganda machine, nothing more.
Live quietly, get purposeful about enriching and achieving personal strength and stamina for Murphy Never Sleeps.
Accept that it's going to get a lot uglier out there.
Cherish trusted friends.

If the media reports it, and no immediate arrests are included, then you get copycat assaults. If the media reports widespread copycat assaults, then you betcha there will be backlash.

A Lose-Lose situation, no?

It's happening here too. One of my friends was mobbed on a bicycle trail by about a dozen.
