Why you can't trust the mainstream media, reason #479

CNN has been caught lying (again), this time by omission, concerning the Milwaukee riots.  NewsBusters reports:

In a classic case of media bias by omission, CNN took extra care Monday to leave out a crucial part of their reports on the Milwaukee police shooting. After a black police officer fatally shot Sylville Smith Sunday, after he refused to put down his gun, riots and violence ensued in the city. Smith’s family was eager to talk to the media and his sister Sherelle had a message that should have been covered and condemned by the media. Instead, CNN decided to air her words but curtail them before they became controversial.

In this video posted by user DeeconX on Twitter, Sherelle Smith can be seen here, in front of several reporters, calling for violence to end ... in the city. What she says next is shocking ... “Burnin down shit ain’t going to help nothin! Y’all burnin’ down shit we need in our community. Take that shit to the suburbs. Burn that shit down! We need our shit!  We need our weaves. I don’t wear it. But we need it.”

But you wouldn’t guess Smith had said anything of the kind based on CNN’s reporting. Both on their website and televised on CNN Newsroom Monday, CNN described Sherelle Smith as “calling for peace.” They conveniently left out the rest of her message, calling for protesters to burn down the suburbs.

On CNN.com, under the subhead, “Residents try to heal,” the article read:  'Smith's sister Sherelle Smith condemned the violence, saying the community needs the businesses affected. "Don't bring that violence here," Neal, his other sister, said while sobbing.'

That was all CNN reported. Again on CNN Newsroom this morning, correspondent Ana Cabrera reported that Sherelle Smith was “calling for peace,” before playing just a few seconds of Smith’s words that left out the most damning part.

There's more at the link.

I've heard CNN called the 'Clinton News Network' for its obvious bias towards her candidacy for President.  After this episode, perhaps it should be re-dubbed the 'Cowardly News Network' for its refusal to report (and confront) the truth, the racial reality, of life in the USA today.

They Lie and they lie. Used to be mostly by omission - picking what's a story. Sometimes by "we forgot to check, the story was too good" (see "fake but accurate on the supposed Bush papers)

Now - they'll piss on your boots, SHOW you the stream of piss, and tell you it's rain. It's not just Anitia Sarkeesian and gamergate - the sickness is now mainstream.

Anyone remember the black guy carrying an AR rifle at a protest - off Obama's route, back in the 2008 elections? The news station clipped just a couple seconds of video, AND cropped it down so all you could see was the receiver and the shirt - no skin - and then used that clip as an example of "angry white men showing up to protest Obama"

Joke we had in 1991:

"What's the American spy agency called? CIA."

"What's the Russian spy agency called? KGB."

"What's the Iraqi spy agency called? CNN..."

Swear to God, if it's no matter how bad, wrong, or evil it is, Ted Turner's propaganda network is out there cheerleading for it...

Wonderful thing, working on a boat. No TV. The only news is what can be downloaded in reasonable time- articles, found online. Much less bias, or at least more predictable bias.

Still trying to figure out why everyone else is surprised that TV stations are BS'ing the news.

I forgot about this one. Second Fallujah, 2004. As the kickoff to the (finally!) successful campaign to retake the city, the Air Force came in and blew up high priority targets. The Al Jazeera/CNN shared headquarters/broadcasting building was the first to go.

For the US military, the media is, and for decades has been, the enemy. Being part of events, and then seeing those events reported deliberately backwards and upside down, was what finally opened my eyes to the truth. Everything they say is a lie, designed to destroy America.

"Civilian Cold War" syndrome: Your "fellow" citizens are your actual enemies.
And then going more and more full-frontal on top of that.
How I hate the current age we're living in more and more.
At least 20, 30, 40, 50, 60-plus years ago it was more covert and subtle, allowing for a convincing front exuding the elements of "community"---even if it was a false front, it was convincing enough to the majority of people for them to believe in it, thus allowing for a cultural atmosphere of (a reasonable degree of) interpersonal civility.
