Irony of the week

Richard Littlejohn, writing about the many 'green' power-generating wind turbines deployed in England, points out:

Over the past three weeks, with demand for power at record levels because of the freezing weather, there have been days when the contribution of our forests of wind turbines has been precisely nothing.

It gets better. As the temperature has plummeted, the turbines have had to be heated to prevent them seizing up. Consequently, they have been consuming more electricity than they generate.

Let's hear it for 'green' - NOT!

They are marvels of mechanical and aerodynamic engineering, but not a very reliable source of electricity!

A better mousetrap, anyone?

That's the answer. Mousetrap power!

Simply use the springs in all the mousetraps across England to power tiny electric generators.

Sure, the power generation would be negligible, and mice would over-run the country, but it would be GREEN energy. And that's all that's important, right?

imagine the outcry if big oil had been the force behind building the windmills

Would that more "green" folks realized that nuclear is far and away the most "green" option available with modern technology..
