Camp Lejeune would produce the most (not best) genetically modified Marines
My son went to the MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) San Diego back in 2005. They called them Hollywood Marines.
He took two all expense paid trips to Iraq in 2006 and 2008. Came back from the first trip with a concussion and a dead best friend from a green on blue incident in a FOB (forward observation base). The second trip was much better as he was a bodyguard for the Battalion Commander and got to meet a lot of Sheiks.
His duty station here in the USA was 29 Palms, California. He told me he would get up in the morning and try to remember if he was in Iraq or the USA, they both looked the same.
A friend would note that Hollywood Marines are no match for the thick-skinned Parris Island Marines. Those sand flies are murderous!
My Gunny used to amuse us with ‘Horror’ stories about being a DI at MCRD San Diego and how it was only possible to really calibrate recruits when they bussed them up to Pendleton to shoot since they were otherwise always in the public eye unlike Paris Island recruits.
Parris Island has sand fleas, but it's flat as a pancake. They never had to hump a ruck up Mt. Mother------.
