The unluckiest goalkeeper in the NHL?

Mike Smith, goalkeeper for the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team, must have had a pretty awful Christmas.  His team played the Buffalo Sabres in that team's home town on Monday night - and this happened.

A "butt goal"???  Now there's an ice hockey technical term I'd never heard before . . .

Been a while since I watched/played hockey, but one of the rules I remember is that the play is whistled dead if the referee loses sight of the puck.

Which means the play should have been whistled dead as soon as it landed in his "back pocket."

Should not have counted as a goal.
