Doofus Of The Day #691
Today's award goes to Sitemeter, probably the most-used traffic monitoring and analysis software used by bloggers (you'll find their counter at the foot of my sidebar). It seems their monitoring didn't extend to themselves - several bloggers are reporting that the company let its domain name registration expire.
It was promptly snapped up by someone else, probably a predatory kibitzer who swoops on newly-expired domains in the hope that they can force the original owners to pony up hefty sums to get them back. In this case, it didn't work, because Sitemeter was back online in less than 24 hours. Still, for so highly Internet-visible (and controversial) a company to lose control of its own domain name speaks volumes in itself.

That would explain my totally wonky sitemeter stats for Friday. Whew! I was afraid that everyone on the internet just stopped liking me all at once.
Snerk... Yep, that whole attention to detail thingie is lacking...
