A near-disaster, narrowly averted
I've posted video clips from time to time of hairy landings and other misadventures involving aircraft. Here's one that's about as close as one can get to the shaved edge of disaster without crossing the fatal line!
This Ilyushin Il-18 turboprop airliner was trying to take off from an airfield in Cabinda, West Africa. It had almost reached takeoff speed when it was forced to abort due to an unspecified technical problem. The result . . . well, see for yourself.
How the pilot managed to keep it upright and (relatively) undamaged is beyond me! It was great work on his part.
