The best of Hubble, for Advent

Alan, of the Big Picture Web site, part of the Boston Globe, has started a fascinating Advent Calendar. He writes:

As we head into the traditional western Holiday Season, I'd like to present this Hubble Space Telescope imagery Advent Calendar. Every day, for the next 25 days, a new photo will be revealed here from the amazing Hubble Space Telescope. As I take this chance to share these images of our amazing Universe with you, I wish for a Happy Holiday to all those who will celebrate, and for Peace on Earth to everyone.

Thanks, Alan!

The first pictures are pretty spectacular, and make my mouth water for what's coming in the days ahead. For example, here's just one (of five) versions of the December 1st picture, the star V838 Monocerotis (click for a larger view):

Wonderful! I highly recommend that you bookmark the Big Picture's Advent Calendar page, and drop in there every day until Christmas. It promises to be a visual treat.
