The nuts and bolts of the US Navy's 5" cannon


Business Insider takes a very interesting look at the US Navy's Mark 45 5" cannon.




The article includes many photographs taken below decks, showing the compartments and activities that go into making this a viable weapons system.  Very interesting reading for naval buffs.

I notice they don't say much about the Fire Control side of things. The folks that aim and send the firing signal to the gun. Of course that is classified procedures.

Yep, at least they kept 'some' things classified... LOL Good gun and VERY accurate!

But according to the Navy Times difficult to maintain at sea and there is only ONE per ship!
