In memoriam: RMS Titanic, 100 years ago

To commemorate the loss of RMS Titanic on April 14th/15th, 1912 (100 years ago this weekend), here's a collection of contemporary film clips and comments by survivors.

May the 1,514 people who died in the disaster, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Peter

I have always been fascinated by Titanic. I watched James Cameron's special last evening on the National Geographic channel. Based on the latest work done at recent visits to the wreck site, they came up with a very plausible scenario for the breaking apart and sinking. It was interesting, but as your last sentence attests, this was a human disaster. May they rest in peace.

Lost in all the talk about the Titanic is mention of the loss of the USS Thresher, 49 years ago on April 10.

Ballard's submersibles were in part financed to explore the remains of the USS Thresher and USS Scorpion, and the 228 men lost with them.
