The (very) quick way down the mountain!

Reader Eric K. in England e-mailed me with this Sky News report, from which the video is also taken.

A truck driver in Norway has had a lucky escape after he survived a 200ft drop down a snow-covered cliff.

His lorry did not have the right winter tread tyres and was stuck on an icy road.

It was being towed off the mountain pass north of Oslo by a large rescue tow truck when the accident occurred.

The incident was filmed by a passenger in a car travelling behind the two vehicles.

The lorry driver was struggling to steer his vehicle as it slid on ice and sideswiped a guard rail.

Moments later, both vehicles crashed through the fence and plunged down the cliff.

There's more at the link. Here's a video clip of the accident.

You can see that the driver of the tow truck managed to jump clear before it went over the edge. The driver of the towed vehicle wasn't so lucky, and rode his truck down the mountain as it turned over and over. Remarkably, he survived, albeit with several broken bones. He's being treated in hospital.

I wonder how they're going to get both trucks back up to the road? Or will they just leave them down there as a sacrifice to the mountain trolls?

Thanks, Eric!

Peter

But who will think of the trees? [wringing hands] Won't someone think of the poor trees?
