Note the constant bailing of water out of one of the vessels involved. If I saw that, and I was waiting to cross, I think I'd be demanding a more watertight boat!

Except it's not a bridge---it's a ferry.
I knew a farmer once (circa late 1950s) who built a "ferry" out of 55gal drums to cross a creek that bisected his farm. When water was high as it often was in the Spring, he'd cross the creek on his home-built ferry. He had a small gas-powered winch to pull the ferry from one side to the other.
Worked for him.
Yep, ferry... and if there is no option for 50 miles each way, I'd be doing it and praying the whole time...
