Is nothing safe from pets anymore?

I always thought pets would at least need their owners to feed them . . . but that may no longer be the case.

Our rescued Australian cattle dog Tobey (lately nicknamed Tubby) would love to learn this. He already cleans up any food left by the other dogs and cats, his definition of left food meaning they look away from their food bowls for approximately two seconds. He'd double his weight in no time.

I see the problem! Nancy and Harry need to institute a Federally mandated pet-proof lid for canned animal food.

Oh crud! If they don't need us for our opposable thumbs, we're toast!

This is why I don't feed canned food, as a general rule. (As the occasional treat, sure.) Koa already knows how to open up one of the kitchen cupboards that doesn't quite latch all the way, giving her a nice little hidey-hole. As it is, I have to store the cats' dry kibble in a locking plastic container, and put the actual bags of food behind closed and latched doors, or the kitties (okay, Mika) will eviscerate the bag and have themselves a buffet.

If these animals are so smart, what's up with that stupid "Did you mean me?" look?? :) Actually, I miss our boxer and would love to have another one.
