So much for justice - political style!

I hope readers are as outraged as I am by the situation concerning former Senator Stevens from Alaska. To quote from this morning's report:

The U.S. Justice Department filed a motion Wednesday to drop its case against former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, who was convicted of seven felony counts of corruption last fall.

Attorney General Eric Holder decided to abandon the case due to prosecutorial misconduct -- one Justice Department source called the stunning turnaround a "black eye" on the department and the FBI.

Stevens was convicted last year of lying on a Senate disclosure form in order to hide $250,000 in gifts he received from an oil company executive and friends.

Only after the conviction did allegations of FBI misconduct come to light. The judge in the case has repeatedly delayed sentencing Stevens, and at one point he held prosecutors in contempt. Justice Department officials later replaced the trial team.

Stevens sought to dismiss the case, and Wednesday's action in effect supports his request. A hearing has been set for April 7.

The fact that former Senator Stevens lost his seat after being found guilty by the court - a verdict which almost certainly handed his seat to his Democratic Party opponent - is conveniently ignored in all this. I think the only fair, reasonable and rational thing to do would be for Senator Stevens to formally apply in court to have last November's election for Senator invalidated, on the grounds of egregious prosecutorial misconduct, and request that it be re-run. I daresay he'd have a much better chance of winning this time.

Of course, the likelihood of the 'system' allowing that to happen is slim to none. More likely, some form of off-the-record 'compensation' will be offered to Senator Stevens if he 'plays ball' and 'shuts up'.

Makes you sick, doesn't it?

Peter

The Socialists, They aren't Democrats, have been working very hard to fix elections lately. With Coleman in Minnesota and Tedisco in New York being shot down by the Socialist courts I don't see a chance in Hades for Senator Stevens to regain his seat. The fix is in. God help us all.

He should also sue the prosecutors and government for violation of his civil rights. It's time to remove government immunity for crap like this.
